Tourist and business visitors alike should, for the foreseeable future, exercise care and awareness for personal safety, and women are advised not to travel unaccompanied. Street crime is common, as is armed car crime away from the capital. The northeast region near the Kosovo border should be avoided due to large quantities of scattered unexploded ordnance left behind from the 1998/99 uprisings in Kosovo and subsequent NATO intervention.
